    What does NTNM stand for?
    The two predecessor libraries of the NTNM library, the Natural Science and Technology Departmental Library and the INM Library, Leibniz Institute for New Materials, were brought together under one roof. NTNM stands for Natural Science, Technology and New Materials.

    The NTNM Library is the joint library of the NT Faculty of Saarland University (UdS) and the INM – Leibniz Institute for New Materials, Saarbrücken. It is open for use to all members and students of the UdS and the INM as well as external interested parties.

    What collections can I find in the NTNM library?
    In the NTNM library you will find print and electronic media on science and technology. It combines the print collections from the two predecessor libraries NT- and INM-Bibliothek as well as the scientific and technical textbook collection of the SULB.

    Registration and user account

    How do I get a library card?
    Students and members of UdS and INM may use their UdS card as library card. A one time registration is required for which a filled in registration form of NTNM library, your UdS card and your identity card is needed to be shown at our circulation desk. External students will receive a library card from the NTNM library when they register. Please also present your identity card or a valid identification document when you register for the first time. If you are student please enclose a certificate of enrolment.

    How do I get my personal user account?
    When you register as a library user, you will receive an e-mail with access data to your personal user account of the NTNM library. Please change the default password. You can use your user account to view your borrowed items, request an extension of your borrowing periods, and notify us of your reservations for borrowed items.

    How can I log in to my user account?
    On our website www.ntnm-bib.de you will find the button “To user account”. Please enter your user data here, which was sent to you via e-mail after your registration with us.

    I don’t know my access data, what can I do?
    Please contact our information desk. We will be happy to help you and generate a new access code

    Lending conditions

    Which media can I borrow?
    All media (books, CD-ROMS, DVDs) can be borrowed, except for magazine volumes and issues, as well as important reference works. These are marked with a yellow label as “Präsenzbestand” on the spine of the book.

    How long can I borrow a book?
    The loan period is for 28 days. It can be extended independently online for up to 10 x 4 weeks. This does not apply if a book has been pre-ordered. Then the borrowed book/media must be returned after the due date.

    Work space

    Where can I work in the library?
    The NTNM library has a total of 5 group work rooms available, out of which the three smaller ones can be accomodate upto 8 people, and the two larger ones up to 12 people. The room 0.14 (Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz) has technical devices for available presentations, which can be used on request.

    • 1st floor 1.02 (Richard A. Zsigmondy) – 8 persons
    • 2nd floor (Marie Curie) – 8 persons
    • 2nd floor (Leonardo da Vinci) – 8 persons

    All group study rooms (with the exception of the ground floor 0.14 (Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz) can be used by 2 persons without reservation within the opening hours of the library (Note: not for individual persons!). Groups have priority. A reservation is a obligatory for room 0.14 (Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz). It is available for groups with a minimum group size of 4 persons. Reservations are only possible for registered users of the NTNM library (user account). This study room is always locked due to the technical equipment. To unlock it, please contact the library staff.

    Reservations are possible until the previous day before 4:00 p.m. You can make your reservation in person or by phone (302-2467) or via e-mailinfo@ntnm-bib.de. If you wish to use the available technology in the room, please inform us while making your reservation.
    The rooms can be reserved from Mon-Fri for defined time periods 09:00-13:00 and from 13:00 to 19:00.Reservations can be made maximum 4 weeks in advance.If you are unable to keep an appointment, please inform us in good time so that the room can be allocated to other interested parties.

    Internet access and electronic media

    May I connect to the net with my own laptop?
    The NTNM library is equipped with Wifi, so you can connect to the Internet with your own laptop via EDUROAM. In the table tops of the workstations, you can find power outlets for charging your electronic devices.

    Are there any PC workstations ?
    The NTNM library has a total of 12 PC workstations. They are located on the ground, the first and second floor. Here you can log in with your UdS ID or your INM ID.
    At these PCs, you can use the electronic collections of the NTNM library (catalogs, databases, e-journals, e-books) as well as search the internet.

    Opening hours

    The regular opening hours of the NTNM library are:
    Mon-Fri 09:00-20:00
    Sat 10:00-16:00

    Locker facility

    The NTNM library offers day lockers in the foyer, in front of the library, for NTNM users. Lockers 1-56 are supervised and maintained by the NTNM staff. Lockers 1-50 are equipped with a locking system using the UdS card. Keys for lockers 51-56 can be borrowed from the NTNM information desk. These lockers are reserved exclusively for external users of the library who do not have a UdS card.

    Terms of Use for Lockers:

    • The use of the lockers is reserved for the users of the NTNM library for the duration of their stay in the library (daily use). They are available for use from 09:00 to 19:00 daily.
    • Permanent occupancy is not permitted.
    • The lockers are opened daily in the morning between 08:00 and 08:30 by NTNM Library staff.
    • For hygienic reasons, perishable food will be disposed of immediately without the right to a refund.
    • The remaining contents of the opened lockers will be bagged and stored at the NTNM until the end of the week.
    • Each Monday, unclaimed bags will be taken to the Lost and Found.

    The NTNM Library assumes no liability for losses incurred through the use of the lockers.
